The funeral of Aldo Gucci, last surviving son of the founder of the luxury Italian fashion house Guccio Gucci, took place in Rome on Monday (22/1).
Aldo Gucci died of cancer on Friday (19/1) in Rome after falling into a coma the day before. His death came after a long illness.
His father Guccio Gucci founded the company some eighty years ago. Its distinctive "GG" insignia became a byword for expensive and high quality fashion items and his fashion house has been patronised by the rich and the famous.
A company spokesman said Aldo Gucci, who supervised the company's operations in the United States, sold his 40 per cent stake in the company before his death.
A former president of the company, Aldo Gucci was formerly involved in a swirl of controversy over the company's finances. In January 1986, he pleaded guilty to evading more than seven million dollars in US taxes and served a year in prison.
