- Story Text: - INTRO: London Fashion Week began on Wednesday (September 25) with established designers Ghost launching a new range and sponsor Vidal Sassoon talking of the excitement of British Fashion.
Fashion group Ghost showed a new line for Spring/Summer 1997 which diversifies from their usual style known for its flimsy, floaty fabrics. "Seraph" is designed to appeal as a range for "urban living".
The collection uses dark indigo denim and tan-coloured fabric with the occasional splash of luminous pink and green. The illusion of a false waistband is created where fabric stops at the hips but flesh-coloured fabric carries the garment up to the waist Seraph's designer is Sherry Lamden who has been with Ghost for three years. Company founder Tanya Sarne said "Seraph" means wind-spirit or angel. She felt the name was appropriate for a sibling of Ghost which was different; like children going against the wishes of their parents.
Lamden and Sarne chose fashionable London noodle restaurant Wagamama's to show their new collection to international buyers and journalists from top fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle.
The range retails at 50-100pds (75-150 U.S. dollars) for tops, 150-200pds (225-300 dollars) for dresses and 200-250pds (300-375 dollars) for jackets.
Fashion Week is sponsored for the sixth consecutive season by hairdresser Vidal Sassoon. Three years ago there was talk of the event being discontinued but he says this season's collection of shows is the hottest ever and Fashion Week is boosting the morale of the whole of London.
