- Story Text: Heavy monsoon rains pounded Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, on Tuesday (August 19), bringing low-lying areas to a standstill with severe flooding.
Pakistan’s Meteorological Department said in a statement that strong monsoon currents were penetrating into most parts of the southern Sindh province.
Widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected in several districts in Sindh, including Karachi, until August 22, with occasional breaks in between, the Meteorological Department added.
Elsewhere, flash floods triggered by a cloudburst brought down homes and buildings in northwest Pakistan. The toll contributed to a total of 358 deaths in the floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province since Friday (August 15)– more than 200 of them in the worst hit district of Buner.
