- Story Text:Heavy rains hit Huizhou in southern China, triggering a level-two flood emergency and closing several tourist sites, Chinese state-run broadcaster CCTV showed on Tuesday (August 5).
Four rivers rose above warning levels, including the Danshui River, which exceeded the danger mark by 2.19 metres.
More than 7,500 people were evacuated from low-lying areas, including Huiyang district, where roads were submerged. Emergency crews used dinghies to rescue stranded residents.
Rain has been falling non-stop since Thursday (July 31), with over 156 mm recorded in 24 hours in Huiyang alone. Flood barriers have been installed near bridges to stop river water from reaching urban zones.
Authorities warned of continued rainfall and maintained high alert for further flooding.
