Summary:It was called 'Ping Pong diplomacy' in the early 1970's. It was the term applied to China's hesitant contact with outside world - often heralded by the exchange of sports teams. On May 19 1972, one of China's table tennis teams was in Peru at the start of a tour of Latin America which included Chile, Columbia and Ecuador. And the Chinese were almost unbeatable at their game.
