- Story Text: Bollywood lent some glamour to Chinese territory of Macau as the Zee Cine Awards 2012 got underway on Saturday night (January 21, 2012).
Indian superstar Shah rukh Khan and former Miss World, Priyanka Chopra, both also nominees for best actor and actress, hosted the awards show at the Sands Venetian in the former Portuguese colony.
It is the first time the two stars have come together to host an awards ceremony.
In a press conference, Khan joked how he was hoping to win an award. He was nominated for best actor in two films -- 'Don 2' and 'Ra. One', which were both also up for best film.
"What is really interesting is the kind of mix we have now for the films and the actors and actresses who are nominated tonight. No I don't have any predictions, I only like to selfishly think I'll get one of the awards ... I come with full greed, full desire, you know my kids don't treat me well at home if I come back from an award function and have no award."
He also said that as the world's two most populous countries, there was a great potential for collaboration in India and China's film industry.
"So much to learn from the cinema here so yeah it'd be the next big step. In terms of even achieve bilateral relationships I've been talking to some people who talked about bringing the cinema of China to India and Indian films going there so yeah."
Later on the red carpet speaking over screaming fans, some holding posters of him, Khan was more modest, saying it was nice to be recognized for his work.
"It's kind of recognition for the hard work that you put in in a year, it's not just one film or two films, it's kind of at the end of the year you want to celebrate what you've done and it's nice to attend these awards and feel that people respect what you've done and people are nice to your stuff. So they mean an acceptance and kind of recognition for having worked hard."
The more than three-hour long ceremony was also to include actors Shahid Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Ranbir Kapoor and others perform live.
The winners won't be announced until the Awards are telecast by Zee on 5 February 2012, and actress Zeenat Aman, said it was impossible to guess who it would be.
"You know I tell you something. Everybody has their own special journey, everybody has their own way of working and doing what they have to do . It's very difficult to pick 2 people. I think we are fortunate that in the business we have some very talented people and people who are willing to walk the extra mile to achieve what they want."
Actor Farnhan Akhtar had nominations for both best director for 'Don 2' and for International Male Icon of the year.
"I think what you feel while you're shooting, the environment does come through when someone's watching the film. So the fact that we had such a good time and got on with each other so easily comes through in the film."
