- Story Text: Veteran Spanish crooner Julio Iglesias was presented with an award to honour a career that has spanned nearly half a century and seen him sell over 300 million records on Monday (12 May).
Sony Music presented the 70 year old singer with 'The Most Successful Latin Artist of All Time' award at a news conference in London's Dorchester Hotel.
Although he is one of the best selling artists in the world, has won several awards and has sung in 14 languages including French, Italian, Portuguese, English, German, Japanese and Indonesian as well as Spanish, Iglesias said that he does not consider himself the most successful Latin artist in history.
"I think there is many different artists, not only Latinos, who represent music all over the world as much as I do. The only main difference is that I am 70 years old, and I'm thinking for the future," he said.
During an interview with Reuters, he emphasised his undying passion for music, saying that without it "I will not be able to breathe, so music for me is my life. My lungs need music."
The balladeer, who is known for duets like 'When You Tell Me That You Love Me' with Dolly Parton and 'All of You' with Diana Ross, added that passion is not dead in modern music.
"There is different expressions, music moves much more stronger, rhythm is also much more powerful, but when I see Bruno Mars singing a song, and Justin Timberlake, or Adele, or so many artists young kids, I feel the expression of their souls is there," he said.
Iglesias is scheduled to perform in England, Ireland, America and Mexico in May. His latest album of love ballads, '1 The Collection', is set to be released in the UK on May 19 with Sony Music, according to the singer's official website. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
