- Story Text: Rocker Rod Stewart unveiled his first album in five years in grand style by literally taking over Los Angeles' famed Sunset Strip.
The 53-year old star travelled up and down the bustling strip of nightclubs to play three mini-concerts for die-hard fans and music industry V.I.P.'s.
Stewart started the night by performing for 1300 fans in the parking lot of the Tower Records store on Sunset Boulevard.
700 of these fans got tickets to the show when they bought copies of his latest release "When We Were the New Boys," which went on sale that same day.
The concert consisted of Stewart classics like "Maggie May" and "Hot Legs" mixed with songs off the new album, most of which are borrowed from groups like Oasis, Primal Scream and Nick Lowe.
Following that set, Stewart and his entourage climbed into his specially-outfitted bus and cruised a quarter-mile down Sunset Boulevard to the Roxy nightclub. There, he performed another set, similar to the first, but this one for 450 industry V.I.P.'s and celebrity guests.
When that wrapped up, Stewart was off to the famed Whisky-A-Go-Go, just a few doors down the street, where groups like the Doors and the Eagles got their start.
Stewart gave one more concert in that historic venue for another group of fans, some of whom paid up to 125 US dollars per ticket.
The evening came to a close with an exclusive reception and party at the trendy Mondrian Hotel's Sky Bar, also appropriately located just down the street on the Sunset Strip.
Close by Stewart's side all night was his model wife Rachel Hunter.
The new album "When We Were the New Boys" attempts to recapture the energy and spirit of his popular 1973 album "Every Picture Tells A Story," which included the hit single "Maggie May." It's his first self-produced offering in nearly two decades. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
