Summary:Hundreds of people went on the rampage in Delhi on September 11 1972 as the police fired several hundred teargas shells to quell a riot sparked off by a case of alleged caste discrimination. A Harijan girl, from the formerly untouchable caste, was snubbed by her school teacher. The teacher was arrested but later released, and this prompted widespread rioting which went on for three days.
