- Story Text: The day after the U.S. launched its attack on
Afghanistan, antiwar demonstrators protested in the heart of
New York city, Times Square.
In the shadow of a huge poster above the World
Wrestling Federation restaurant and bar that reads, "No
Mercy," a small group of people turned up in New York's Times
Square to protest the attack on Afghanistan. Protesters
chanted, "Hey George, let's face it, your war is racist" and
held up signs that read, "War Ends Nothing" and "Stop Bombing
Afghanistan".
Others shouted: "One, two, three, four, stop the bombing,
stop the war", and held signs that read "No More Death, we
need Peace".
Larry Holmes the spokesperson for Act Now to Stop War and
End Racism or A.N.S.W.E.R. spoke about what he feels the
attack on Afghanistan is all about.
"We think the war is ultimately going to be about, the
United States and corporate America reinforcing its domination
of that region, dominating the oil and that's what all the
anger and resentment throughout the middle east and Asia is
about in the first place so this war is definitely not in the
interest of ordinary people it's got to stop," Holmes said
As the war continues, it is clear there are those in the
United States that will never forgive the U.S.-led coalition
for attacking Afghanistan, given the events of September 11th
or not.
