- Story Text: Brazilians have marked International Women's Day with
an anti-war march through the streets of Rio de Janeiro.
Some 500 Brazilians protested against possible war
with Iraq during a march along Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana
Beach on Saturday (March 08) to the beats of samba during a
demonstration to mark International Women's Day.
This year's International Women's Day march turned into a
demonstration to call for peace and to protest against a
U.S.-led war against Iraq "Today, women join this international
fight for peace, but we want to give an expanded meaning to
peace, not just against this war," Jandira Fegalhe, a delegate
for the Workers Party, said.
The Brazilian government have sided with Germany and
France in their stance against the war, preferring to give
more time for a diplomatic solution.
