- Story Text: Thousands of Hizbollah supporters crowded into a square in their southern beirut stronghold on Monday (September 11) as an official with the organisation claimed victory in the recent war against Israel.
It was the first mass rally since the end of the 34 day war and coincided with British prime minister Tony Blair's visit to Beirut, which was marked by protests and snubs.
Hizbollah supporters waved flags and many carried picture's of their leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
Official Ali Manour said Hizbollah had made the choice to begin the conflict with Israel, adding: "We knew that it could bring death but God holds the truth and He stuck with us and then there was our victory for the nation through its strength and steadfastness." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
