- Story Text: ANC President Jacob Zuma promised a large crowd at a rally near Cape Town that he wants to eradicate corruption within the state and the private sector.
ANC (African National Congress) President Jacob Zuma addressed a crowd of thousands at a rally in Khayelitsha near Cape Town today (Sunday 22).
The presidential candidate promised the large crowd that filled the Khayelitsha sports stadium to eradicate corruption within the state and the private sector.
"In the fight against corruption within the state and the private sector including measures to review the tendering system to ensure that politicians do not take part in the adjudication of tenders," Zuma told the cheering crowd.
He also said that South Africans are proud of the past and confident of the future. Zuma was in the Western Cape on a two-day mass mobilisation election campaign.
Zuma also called on certain sections of the media to stop a "disinformation campaign", responding to a report in the Sunday Times which told of how the ANC had broken protocol in order to get Mandela to a rally in Dutywa last week.
Zuma said that Mandela was a stalwart of their movement the ANC. Zuma called on the media to "report factually and truthfully without carrying out biased political agendas".
Zuma's visit to the Western Cape, included a door-to-door campaign in Delft and Emfuleni, and also evening meeting with local businessmen, clergy and other key stakeholders in the province. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
