- Story Text: Supporters of Egypt's President Mohamed Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood ran chanting through the streets in Cairo en masse, after overnight clashes on Thursday (December 6).
Tens of thousands of Brotherhood supporters heeded a call on Wednesday (December 5) to mass at the presidential palace to counter an opposition sit-in.
Overnight, clashes erupted five people were killed, prompting tanks to be deployed outside the Egyptian presidential palace.
Pro-government demonstrators were holding several men in the street they refer to as "thugs." Some of the men were wounded.
The streets of Heliopolis near the palace were strewn with rocks from running street battles and cars that had been parked nearby were damaged. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
