- Story Text: South Korean protesters burn North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's photo to condemn the third nuclear test while the communist state celebrates the 'successful' test with a new song dedicated to the nuclear developers.
South Korean protesters on Thursday (February 21) condemned North Korea's latest nuclear test while the communist state was in festive mood over its 'successful' test.
About twenty anti-North protesters gathered in downtown Seoul to protest against the nuclear test. They slashed photos of the North's leader Kim Jong-un and also its flag.
"We can't tolerate North Korea's nuclear weapons. We're here to urge people of the Republic of Korea to be much more sensitive with our security and work together to completely denuclearise the North," said Maeng Cheon-soo, one of the protesters.
The North introduced a new song on Thursday dedicated to nuclear developers, who are visiting Pyongyang at the invitation of Kim for the 'successful' nuclear test.
"'At a burst' is a song, which fits perfectly well with our people's character. We launched a satellite at a burst. We conducted a nuclear test at a burst. We can destroy enemies' hostility at a burst. I think this song will be very loved by those scientists, technicians, soldiers and workers who contributed to carry out the nuclear test successfully," said KRT's announcer introducing the song.
North Korean state media reported the country's scientists, technicians and officials involved in the recent test arrived in Pyongyang on Wednesday (February 20).
The unpredictable country conducted its third nuclear test last week, in defiance of U.N. resolutions.
Pyongyang said the aim of the test was to bolster its defences given the hostility of the United States, which has led a push to impose sanctions on North Korea.
North Korea has already told key ally China that it is prepared to stage one or two more tests this year to force the United States into diplomatic talks, a source with direct knowledge of the message told Reuters last week. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
