- Story Text: Hundreds of Gaza residents marched in solidarity with supporters of ousted president Mohamed Mursi, as a violent crackdown in Egypt descended into a bloodbath with dozens killed on Friday (August 16).
More than 500 Palestinians demonstrated after evening prayers in the town of Jabalia, waving Egyptian flags and carrying posters, one with a slogan that read "Sisi - game over."
Anger in pro-Mursi camps was directed at army commander General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who moved against Mursi last month after massive street rallies against his administration that had been dogged by accusation of partisanship and incompetence.
The Gaza rally followed similar demonstrations at Jerusalem's Al Aqsa mosque and in the West Bank city of Hebron.
Friday prayers have proved a fertile time for protests during more than two years of unrest across the Arab world.
The Gaza strip is controlled by Hamas, an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, whose supporters are demanding the reinstatement of Mursi.
Around 50 killed were killed in Cairo alone on a "Day of Rage" called by Mursi's followers to denounce a crackdown by the army-backed government. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
