- Story Text: Vintage Cadillacs, Rolls-Royces, Chevrolets and even Russia's Moskvichs flooded central Moscow on Sunday (April 27) to open a new season of the retro rally club in classic car style.
As the retro-shaped shiny vehicles lined up in front of Moscow's hotel Metropol, their equally stylish owners were chatting and posing for pictures under the bright spring sun.
Some vintage car owners climbed on top of their vehicles to pose for photographs and blow kisses to passersby.
Anna Doroshina, the proud owner of 1975 Cadillac Eldorado, treats her car almost like a child, saying that this was the first time she took it for a ride in a big city.
"We are fans of American retro cars. We have a 1975 Cadillac Eldorado. Initially, when I was looking for a car, I was dreaming of buying a (Ford) Thunderbird. But when I saw the Eldorado, my wild heart melted. This is the first time we have taken it out, we want it to communicate and make friends with other cars, because it is really important for it," Doroshina said.
After showing their cars, rally participants drove through central Moscow in a given amount of time, marking the opening of the 10th season of the retro rally club.
The president of the club Slanislav Soloviyov said he was glad the event attracted a lot of people, including some foreign participants, who came to Russia despite the recent geopolitical tensions.
"We have here all the collectors, all those who have cars, all those people who are devoted to the (retro car) movement. They take part in these rallies all over the world, including Moscow. We have foreign drivers coming here too which is great that despite of all these economic sanctions people still come here," Soloviyov said.
Retro rally club is considered the biggest community for retro car collectors in Russia. The club hosts several events throughout the year. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
