- Story Text: Eighty-nine cars driven by teams representing seven European countries left Liege, Belgium, Aug 31, to begin the 1960 Liege-Rome-Liege car rally. The five-day 5,000 kilometre event will take competitors through parts of Belgium, Germany, Yugoslavia, Italy and France.
Nine different categories, ranging from 600 to 3,500 c.c., have been arranged by the organisers, and competitors include such famous rally drivers as Clemens (Germany) and Roussel (Belgium) co-driving a Renault 845 c.c., the all-French team of Trautmann and Ogier in their Citroen I.D. 1,911, c.c., Walter and Jag, an all-German team in a 1,576 c.c. Porsche, and Britain's Pat Moss and Ann Wisdom in an Austin Healey 2,912 c.c.
Trautmann, leader in the European Rally Championship table, starts favourite. But there are so many hazards and risks of mechanical failure that any one of the many other international class stars could receive the trophy at the presentation banquet in Liege Sept 5.
