- Story Text: Prince was the surprise guest at the UK premiere of 'The Bourne Ultimatum' on London's Leicester Square on Wednesday (August 15). Despite wind and rain, the singer arrived last and walked straight past the assembled media without comment. Earlier, Matt Damon, Julia Stiles, and the Oscar nominated director, Paul Greengrass made the rounds and greeted hundreds of fans.
It's been the August smash hit at the U.S. box office grossing over 70 million U.S. dollars at its opening weekend. 'The Bourne Ultimatum' , the last in the espionage series has already earned rave reviews and cast and director are hoping that the American success will spill over into the European market.
Matt Damon, who is back as CIA hit-man Jason Bourne told Reuters at the UK premiere on Wednesday (August 15) that he was optimistic, the Bourne success would continue: "People seem to really love it and I hope the same happens here in the UK, the advance screenings so far have gone really well."
All eyes and cameras were trained on Damon and his movie co-star Julia Stiles and director Paul Greengrass, who all walked the red despite a rainy and windy British summer.
Matt Damon's wife, Luciana Barroso, also attended the premiere. The movie is the third in the "Bourne" trilogy launched five years ago.
The first two films were "The Bourne Identity" and "The Bourne Supremacy."
The movie is dominated by heart-pounding chase scenes that take place in Moscow, Paris, Turin, Italy, London, Madrid, Tangiers, Morocco, and New York. These action-packed pursuits weave their way through a number of international urban sprawls with Jason Bourne hot on the trail of himself as he attempts to recover from amnesia.
That might be the genius of the series: A James Bond-like character who can escape any trap and outsmart any villain, but all in a quest for his own identity. Bourne is not out to save the world. He just wants to know his real name.
Damon is an Academy Award-winning screenwriter and actor. He last appeared in "The Departed" directed by Martin Scorsese. The film won Best Picture at the 2007 Oscars and also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg. Damon also recently starred in Robert DeNiro's dramatic thriller "The Good Shepherd," with DeNiro and Angelina Jolie.
The versatile 36-year-old actor made his first feature film debut in 1988 in a small role in the well-received "Mystic Pizza," also starring the then unknown Julia Roberts. (Damon had one line.) In 1998, he won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay with longtime friend Affleck for the critically-acclaimed drama "Good Will Hunting."
When asked whether his newly established status action hero, made the ladies treat him any different, he laughed: "I can't even get the ladies at my house to treat me different.
I'm trying to, I come home to my wife and I'm 'I'm Jason Bourne', but it doesn't really work I still have to do the dishes."
