The relationships, the dynamic between the family members and the people and the kids. Not the kids. The young adults. And I think everybody, you know, has these problems. It's not just medieval story. It's very contemporary the way we respond and connect and communicate with each other." (SOUNDBITE) (English) GARY OLDMAN, ACTOR, SAYING: "The greatest thing about it was I really wanted to get out and sort of play in the arena in the kids. With this young guy here Shiloh. And Amanda and Catherine, the director, seems to understand, she sort of understands the audience." (SOUNDBITE) (English) CATHERINE HARDWICKE, DIRECTOR, SAYING: "You know I love the symbolism and the different layers you do start realizing that the little girl invites, even in the original story she tells the wolf, she has the fork. She has choice to go to the pleasure principal to go pick the flowers and enjoy things or she can go do exactly what her mom said. Go straight down to your grandmothers and visit her. the two men kind of represent that. And almost every day we kind of have that choice. Which is the safe path and which is the risky path." (SOUNDBITE) (English) SHILOH FERNANDEZ, ACTOR, SAYING: "I think forbidden love and in the other characters case unrequited love is a theme that will go on forever. I feel like Catherine has some kind of hold on the youth culture that is unexplainable" AMANDA SEYFRIED TALKING ABOUT PRESS

- Story Text: Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman, and the stars of "Red Riding Hood" turned out at Grauman's Chinese Theater on Monday (March 7) in Hollywood for the film's premiere.
The Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale gets an update in a new version by "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke . The film stars Amanda Seyfried as Valerie, a girl in a medieval town who is immersed in a forbidden love triangle with Peter, an orphaned woodcutter, played by Shiloh Fernandez and the man she is betrothed by her parents to, the blacksmith, Henry played by Max Irons.
"It's timeless. The relationships, the dynamic between the family members and the people and the kids. Not the kids. The young adults. And I think everybody, you know, has these problems. It's not just medieval story. It's very contemporary the way we respond and connect and communicate with each other," say Seyfried.
"I think forbidden love and in the other character's case unrequited love is a theme that will go on forever," said Shiloh Fernandez.
"Red Riding Hood" is more than just a story of a love triangle, though. The village is haunted by a werewolf and has appeased the wolf with regular animal sacrifices but all of that changes with the death of Valerie's sister. It moves Valerie down into a path fighting her own sexual desires to face her fears.
Hardwicke said the film starts as a love triangle, evolves into a who done it and finishes as a thriller. She added she was attracted to the story and wanted to touch on themes that have been abandoned in the tale that we all know from our childhood. To her, it's a tale filled with sexuality, violence, innocence, and courage.
"She (Valerie) has choice to go to the pleasure principal to go pick the flowers and enjoy things or she can go do exactly what her mom said. Go straight down to your grandmother's and visit her. The two men kind of represent that. And almost every day we kind of have that choice. Which is the safe path and which is the risky path," said Hardwicke.
