- Story Text: The stars of "Hancock" walk the red carpet in Berlin.
Will Smith says he feels at the top of his game for the release of his new superhero movie 'Hancock'.
Will Smith's latest superhero movie "Hancock" got off to a flying start in Berlin on Tuesday (June 17) when Smith and co-stars Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman hit the red carpet for the German premiere.
Hundreds of fans had arrived to catch a glimpse of Smith who patiently signed autographs.
Smith told Reuters that when his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, was watching the movie she kept saying that people do not know, that this is who Will Smith really would be like if he had superpowers. "He is so my dark, alter ego," he jokingly added.
It is not the first time that Theron and Smith are co-acting in a film.
Asked how it was working with Smith the second time around, she said: "We really liked each other and respected each other's work and wanted to do something. So, that's great."
Smith, whose close association with Scientology has been hitting the news, told journalists at an earlier news conference how he and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith had removed their two children from their regular school for home studies and were planning to go ahead with funding a private school that teaches based on Scientology methods.
"Hancock" is scheduled to open on July 2 and is not actually based on an actual comic but does promise to turn superhero conventions on their head with its tale of a depressed, alcoholic, bumbling hero.
Other than goodies like Spider-Man and Superman, "Hancock"
does not really care what happens after he has finished his superhero-job of the day. And what seems to happen when Hancock intervenes is always mayhem.
He might save countless lives, but the damage done to objects and environment seems mostly disproportionate.
Hancock is no run of the mill superhero, he is unfriendly, he drinks, he does not care what anyone thinks. Until the day he saves the life of Ray Embray (Jason Bateman), when Hancock's world is upside down, especially meeting Embray's wife Mary (Charlize Theron).
