- Story Text: Monday night's (November 9) world premiere of the Disney comedy "Old Dogs" was a family affair as stars John Travolta, wife Kelly Preston and their young daughter Ella Bleu joined the rest of the cast on the red carpet at the famed El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.
"Old Dogs" also stars Robin Williams and Seth Green.
Williams was asked how he can tell if the movie he's making is funny.
"Usually if you can crack another actor up, you can say we are working, sometimes that becomes a game to do. But, also you know that something is working really well, if you find yourself laughing, then you know it is working."
Green explained that part of the fun in making "Old Dogs" was the improvisation that took place on set.
"The script was great and it had a ton of super-important information and we had to get all that out. But, whenever something spontaneous happened, Walt allowed it and he kept it in the movie," said Green.
In the film, Travolta and Williams play single and successful middle-age guys who run a sports marketing firm. Their lives are turned upside down when one of them learns that he's the father of twins. The not-so-kid-savvy bachelors stumble in their efforts to take care of the twins, played by newcomers Ella Bleu Travolta and Conner Rayburn, leading to one debacle after another, and perhaps some new found lessons in life.
Williams, who underwent heart surgery in the spring, said he was learning to slow down.
"After heart surgery, don't work so hard, walk down the hill, take it easy," Williams said. "I got the gig. I remember Rodney Dangerfield said 'I'm sweating, I own the club, what am I doing. But, its the idea I got the gig, so its nice to work with people you want to work with and do things that are interesting."
The film's strong supporting cast includes appearances by Lori Loughlin, Rita Wilson, and Matt Dillon.
