- Story Text: It was winter in June as Jim Carrey walked along a white carpet with ice and snowflakes for the premiere of his most recent film, "Mr. Popper's Penguins," on Sunday (June 12). The comedic actor was accompanied by some of his penguin co-stars as they made their way on Hollywood Boulevard.
Carrey, who is no stranger to sharing the set with animals, said the film is special because of the family entertainment it provides.
"Number one was the penguins, I went, ok if it's not a horrible story I'll be interest. Number two is, I love the idea of the family aspect of it. I wanted to do something for kids and I know how important it is for parents to have a movie to bring their kids to and they can enjoy as well and everybody has a good time," said Carrey. "And, there are sweet little lessons for everybody. It's like the story of a person who has a dad who's an adventurer and explores everything in the world except for his relationship with his son."
Other members of the cast confessed their love for animals. While Ophelia Lovibond declared her love for dachshund dogs saying she could "die happy" after sharing the big screen with one, Jeffrey Tambor explained his love for the penguins.
"I am a big fan of penguins. I've never had one personally but I mean, I'm a big fan. I like them, I like their shape, I think they're the cutest of all. Really, I love them. I love a penguin. I love a good penguin," said Tambor.
Also sharing the white carpet were actors Carla Gugino, Clark Gregg and Philip Baker Hall.
"Mr. Popper's Penguins" is a modern retelling of the popular 1938 children's book by the same name. The movie hits U.S. theaters June 17. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
