- Story Text: More A-list celebrities arrived in Park City, Utah to celebrate the premiere of comedy "The Extra Man." The film, which stars Kevin Kline, Katie Holmes and Paul Dano, tells the story of a lonely dreamer (Dano) who moves to New York to become a writer. He rents a room from an eccentric playwright (Kline) who is an "extra man" - a social escort for wealthy widows. The two form an unexpected friendship.
For Holmes, the opportunity to return to Sundance is something the actress says she's been looking forward to.
"You know I feel really fortunate because I have done a couple of independent films in my career," explained Holmes, who always stars in a second festival entry, "The Romantics.
"I have been to Sundance before and it was a wonderful experience and it is so great to be back and I am really happy to be back and am excited for "The Extra Man" and I really enjoy it and I love the festival experience."
Kevin Kline added that the festival is an important venue for films that are character driven and a challenge for actors.
With that said, he weighed in on his character in the film, Henry Harrison, the talented but penniless playwright and the young dreamer Louis Ives, played by Paul Dano.
"We have a lot in common, we both live the kind of, I hate to trivialize it, we are both are of fictitious existence. We live, my character, I hate to say what he is, a romantic. He is not the guy next door," said Kline.
"The Extra Man," directed by Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, was based on the novel by Jonathan Ames.
