- Story Text: Angelina Jolie brought her political thriller "Salt" to London on Monday (August 16) before a crowd of overexcited fans who waited hours to get a glimpse of the A-list actress.
Fans came with signs reading "Angelina we love you" to "Angelina will you adopt me please?" in reference to her multi-racial adopted children.
The star arrived in a nude dress with sparkles and spent a large portion of time signing autographs and meeting fans.
The actress has been compared to a female James Bond for her role as Evelyn Salt in the movie and said when being offered a role with the famed British super spy, she didn't want to just be a pretty accessory on the his arm.
"I had met with (Sony Pictures Co-Chairman) Amy Pascal years before and she asked me to be in a Bond movie and I said I'm not interested in being in a Bond movie, I'm interested in playing Bond and I was joking, kind of. And she called me five years later, four years later and she said I think I have Bond. As a woman, I've been able to do a lot of action movies but they've always been based in fantasy so it was the first one where we really had to take it a little more seriously, allow it to be serious to have a woman do this even though it's a little fun," Jolie told Reuters Television.
Jolie plays a CIA agent in "Salt" and when a mysterious Russian whistleblower comes in to give information about a mole amongst the U.S. intelligence, she flees for cover to save her husband and the hunt to find her leads officials and movie posters to ask: "Who is Salt?"
With The Hollywood Reporter commenting on her role as the tough action hero, beating some of the men at their own game, she said she hopes there will be more femme fatales following in her footsteps.
"I think there'll be more and more (movies with action roles for women) I just think we have to make enough good ones and the audiences will like them and they work and I think there will be more and more. But you know, the men's, there have been great successful ones in the past and they're fun and I watch them but it's time for the girls," she said.
The actress said she wasn't sure she would be physically prepared to play the tough action heroine after giving birth to twins six months previously. She added that now as the children are growing up, they are learning to take care of each other.
"They all take turns. I mean it's funny because the boys are the oldest but the girls are always the most nurturing. The girls are much younger but they seem to take care of things in the house," she said.
Leona Lewis also made an appearance on the black carpet but didn't do any interviews.
"Salt" will be in British cinemas on Wednesday (August 18). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
