- Story Text: Director Todd Philips was joined in London by his two leading men Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis on the faux asphalt carpet for the European premiere of 'Due Date.' Actors Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis were in London's fashionable Leicester Square Wednesday (November 3) for the European premiere of 'Due Date'. The film stars the unlikely duo as a pair of men caught up in a road trip race against time, in which they must overcome several odds to witness the birth of a new family member .
Joining his stars on the specially designed carpet made to resemble an asphalt road was director Todd Phillips, best know for his 2009 box office hit 'The Hangover'.
Sherlock Holmes and Iron man actor Robert Downy Jr. believes Phillips is currently the top dog in Hollywood.
"I honestly feel that Todd Phillips is the premiere American director right now. You know it is funny some of the biggest movies you think of as American Hollywood movies are British directors, Chris Nolan is evidence of that, and then this international sense of the American-esque pushing the envelop of comedy and what can be a big hit and be innovative, I think Todd has really cornered the market."
Downey Jr. plays Peter Highman, an expectant first-time father whose wife's due date is five days away. As Peter hurries to catch a flight home from Atlanta to be at her side, his best intentions go completely awry when a chance encounter with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis) forces the two to go on an unforgettable and hilarious road trip in order for Highman to make it home in time to witness his child's birth.
With Phillips and Galifianakis set to leave London on November 4 to complete filming of "Hangover 2," director Philips sidestepped questions about the controversy surrounding Mel Gibson's canceled cameo in that film.
"The only thing worse about being in a situation were nobody wins is discussing that situation in the press," Phillips said.
Downey Jr. who is currently enjoying a rejuvenated acting career after years of battling with addiction to drugs scoffed at the irony of the media want his comment on …….
"I just love that I am the person that people are asking about the moral psychology, I mean, do you see how far we have come. All I know is that the only way to make a situation were nobody wins worse is to pretend to make it better by talking about it in the press…. It is never made better by talking about it with strangers who then post it on air or write an article about it."
In the film Zach Galifianakis' character Ethan Tremblay uses medicated marijuana to assist with an eye condition, glaucoma. On the day after Californian voters rejected a referendum which asked if marijuana should be legalized, regulated and taxed by the state, Galifianakis said that he believed his professional community was partly at fault.
"Well part of the problem is that Hollywood, and I am guilty of it, keeps making out that people who smoke marijuana look like complete idiots and I know the irony of me saying that but that is what I think people think of marijuana smokers, and it is unfortunate in this day and age that people still have this far of it. It is crazy that that is going on. It is too bad that it didn't pass but we tried, we tried,"
"Due Date" arrives in North American theatres on November 5. The much anticipated sequel to "The Hangover," the most successful R-rated comedy of all time, is currently in production. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
