- Story Text: British independent film "Franklyn" premieres at the London Film Festival.
Actors Eva Green, Ryan Phillippe and Sam Riley walked the red carpet at London's Leicester Square on Thursday (October 16) for the world premiere of their latest film, "Franklyn".
"Franklyn" is an 'urban fairytale' set in contemporary London and futuristic Meanwhile City. It follows the lives of four characters: atheist vigilante Jonathan Preest (played by Phillippe), artist Emilia (played by Eva Green), heartbroken Milo (played by Riley) and deeply religious Peter (played by Bernard Hill). The sci-fi film is the first feature from British director Gerald McMorrow.
"For the budget we had you would never know, the film looks amazing. It looks like, there are parts of it that look like a film the size of like Batman, that sort of film. But it's small, independent, British, and it's really good. And I think Gerald McMorrow, the director, has got a great career ahead of him. Reminds me of like a young Ridley Scott in his style," said American actor Ryan Phillippe.
The film plays with the real and the imaginary and touches on a variety of themes -- romance, faith, and a fight against the system. Former Bond girl and French actress Eva Green described her role in the film and said it was a challenge.
"I mean it was quite a challenge because it was two parts. One is quite dark, tormented, and the other one is quite light, a bit like Mary Poppins, so, very different. And of course very different from Bond," she said.
Phillippe echoed her sentiments when he described some of the filming as 'intense' since he had to perform stunts while wearing a mask. The actor said he had to use some of his martial arts skills during filming.
British actor Sam Riley on the other hand made it appear that he had an easy time filming -- and that the biggest challenge actually was playing a supporting role.
"Not being the lead part (is the biggest challenge). Honestly yeah. No, there wasn't a lot of challenge, it was a lot of fun really I enjoyed it," Riley said.
The actors also talked about other aspects of their career and current events. And with less than a month to go before the U.S. Elections, Phillippe clearly showed whose side he was on.
"Obama. Obama all the way. I feel like it's gonna happen. I was doubting for awhile but now I think, I think he's got it," he said.
"Franklyn" will be released in cinemas across the UK in January 2009. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
