- Story Text: London's Leicester Square was abuzz with fans who had flocked to see the stars of Marvell comic book super heroes of "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer".
Attending the world premiere on Tuesday night (June 12) were the film's stars: Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, and director Tim Story. All took time to greet fans and deal with the huge gathering of the world's media who had descended on the capital for the occasion.
The film sees the Fantastic Four dealing with their greatest challenge yet. The intergalactic Silver Surfer travels to earth to prepare it for its destruction. It is up to the Fantastic Four to unravel the mystery and to avert almost certain destruction of the planet.
Taking 330 million U.S. dollars in world-wide theatrical ticket sales back in 2005, the first Fantastic Four movie went on to become one of Twentieth Century Fox's most successful DVD titles ever.
Now with the eminent release of 'Rise of the Silver Surfer', this film will be out to prove that it is not just another sequel.
"We definitely had our hopes that the first one was going to be successful and it definitely exceeded any of our expectations, and we were hoping, and it did, and we got to make a second one and now we are here," Jessica Alba told Reuters at the world premiere.
As Leicester Square was bathed in warm summer sunshine, Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd (Pronounced YO-an GRIFF-ith) was able to look back to 2005 London premiere through rose tinted glasses.
"I remember the first Fantastic Four premiere we had here," Gruffudd said. "It was a bit of a, 'rain stop play', it was pissing down. But this time round, it is a beautiful barmy evening, it is a world premiere and the crowd are out in force and I am a bit overwhelmed. I still have got butterflies in my stomach."
In the film Jessica Alba's on-screen character Sue Storm prepares to wed her fellow super-hero Reed Richards played by Ioan Gruffudd. Amids heavy media interest, the loving couple find it hard to concentrate on their special day as a result of all the interference.
As events on screen have a way of mirroring real life, Jessica Albas relationship with Cash Warren did not escape the attention of the world's press.
Media speculation has been rife of late as to weather Jessica Alba's relationship with Warren is on or off. Not wanting put an end to speculation Alba preferred to take the moral high ground. "I think as long as I don't put my personal life out as entertainment, I think the better," she said.
Alba did however bring her parents and grandparents to the London premiere, a trip that none of the family had made before.
"Of course it is a special occasion, they have never been to London. My grandparents have never travelled overseas, or they did in the seventies, my grandfather likes to play the guitar so he went to Germany, but that was it. So it is nice to bring them here and I have worked so hard to get to this point and I couldn't be more happy," she said.
