- Story Text: Hollywood veterans Robert Duvall and Sissy Spacek took to the red carpet in Beverly Hills to promote their latest film, "Get Low." The movie tells a tale of a mysterious 1930s Tennessee hermit who threw his own funeral party while he was still alive. The plot is based on a real-life man and the folklore about his life that had passed along through generations.
Duvall said he was quick to say yes to the film. The character gave him a lot to work with.
"Well he's an interesting guy who sets up and goes to his own funeral," said Duvall. "I mean, you know, right away that's a pretty interesting premise."
A popular topic of discussion on the red carpet was the sense of accomplishment in finally getting the low budget film to theatres. "Get Low" was first screened at the Toronto Film Festival in 2009 and has since made the rounds of many major festivals including Sundance. Sissy Spacek said she was just excited to be able to finally premiere the film.
"It feels good. It's quite a relief. We've taken it, you know it's a small film, small budget," said Spacek. "It took a long time for the producers to raise the money for this kind of a film. Which is so wonderful that they did. So we've taken it to all the film festivals and tried to get word of mouth going. As you see, we're here, so we're supporting it."
The premiere got support from a few other Hollywood stars including James Caan and Mira Sorvino.
