- Story Text: Former Hollywood couple Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake prove that there is no bad blood between as they team up for the new comedy "Bad Teacher."
Diaz plays a gold-digging, foul-mouthed teacher who tries to win the affection of Timberlake, a rich substitute new to town. Comedy ensues as she battles fellow teacher, portrayed by British actress Lucy Punch, for Timberlake's heart.
Punch admits she was intimated by their star power, but quickly forgot about their status.
"Within a few minutes of working with them they're so lovely and down to earth and normal that I actually totally forgot who they were until we would be doing an exterior shot and there would be all these swarms of paparazzi and I'm just going what's going on, oh of course," said Punch.
Part of that attention came from the fact that Timberlake and Diaz dated for four years. Actress Phyllis Smith said the pair was nothing but professional on the set.
"I keep looking for something and I didn't see anything they were just great friends, very professional, it was fantastic," said Smith.
In the film Diaz and Timberlake share an awkward love scene which Diaz said they purposely made the least sexiest sex scene ever put on film.
"This is not a sex scene ok, this is a story point brought on to illustrate the lack of chemistry between these two people so, you know, we had a lot of fun with just trying to make it as ridiculous as possible," said Diaz.
Some critics say that Diaz's character, who also spends the majority of the film scheming to raise money for breast implants, is part of a new trend of raunchy leading ladies. However Diaz says she disagrees.
"I don't consider this raunchy, like I think raunchy insinuates that you're trying to shock people, I feel this is really a story line - there's a lot to it. Everything's connected because they are telling the story," Diaz told Reuters.
Actor Jason Segel, who is currently a regular on the U.S. CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" and wrote the film "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" said he wasn't a bad student, but was once accused of plagiarism.
"I got accused of plagiarism once, but I wrote the paper and all I'd like to say is I'm a professional writing now, teacher, you know who you are, you think I wrote the paper now?," joked Segel.
The film opens in U.S. theaters on June 24. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
