- Story Text: Actor George Clooney attends the New York premiere of 'Michael Clayton' along with director Tony Gilroy and co-star Tilda Swinton despite being injured in a motorcycle accident.
Despite a road accident and a fractured rib, actor George Clooney attended the premiere of his latest film Michael Clayton in New York City on Monday (September 24).
The premiere at the Ziegfield theater in New York City saw George Clooney in attendance with his girlfriend Sarah Larson who was on crutches having injured her toes in a motorcycle accident in New Jersey on Saturday (September 22).
Clooney however was quick to make light of the accident preferring to focus on the reason for his being there.
"Well we're not invalids on this. We didn't get really, you know I broke a rib and she broke her toes but you know I still have to go to work today. If you got to go to work, you've got to show up. And this is a film I wanted to be here for," he told journalists at the red carpet event.
The film, 'Michael Clayton' takes a look inside the goings on at a top law firm in the United States. Clooney plays the role of a fixer who has a crisis of conscience because of the often crooked nature of his work.
"And I thought it was always fun to tweak the, you know, the little corporate America and, you know, lawyers and stuff. You can always clang on them a little bit and usually they deserve it some. I thought it was a perfect film to be able to do that," he said speaking about the film.
Tony Gilroy comes into this film as writer and director after having written the screenplays for "Bourne Ultimatum" and "Bourne Supremacy." He wanted to make this film as he wanted to tell the story of the minds at work within different organizations and what motivated people to act in certain ways.
"We did all the Bourne movies and corporate paranoia and government paranoia and really what interests me is not this external paranoia or this external evil. I am really fascinated with all these movies that are really ultimately about the villain that's inside," said Gilroy.
Keeping Gilroy and Clooney company on the red carpet was Tilda Swinton who appears in the film alongside Clooney. The actor's colleague and friend, Brad Pitt made a cameo appearance on the red carpet preferring not to talk to the assembled media outside the Ziegfield theater.
Clooney who is one of the more political actors in Hollywood also spoke about his meeting with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner who is in the city for the UN General Assembly.
"I am a huge fan of his and I think that he and President Sarkozy are doing and amazing job with what they are trying to do both in Iran and in Darfur right now and I think that's a really important step." said the actor.
He added that he was eager to help them in their efforts in any way possible.
