  • Story Text: Actress Lindsay Lohan who has been in the eye of a media storm because of reports of her drinking problems and also because of a video that allegedly shows her using cocaine, did not shy from the cameras Tuesday evening (May 8) as she walked the red carpet in New York City for the premiere of her film, "Georgia Rule." Less than a month after coming out of rehab, actress Lindsay Lohan, whose late-night partying with the likes of Paris Hilton fueled tabloid headlines and who has been reported to have caused some trouble on the sets of the film "Georgia Rule" by being late for shoots, hit the red carpet regardless in New York City on Tuesday (May 8) for the premiere of the film.
    Lohan, 20, shot to stardom as a kid in Disney movies like "The Parent Trap" and "Freaky Friday," and as her fame grew, so did persistent hounding from the paparazzi as the young actress was nearly weekly caught out club hopping in Los Angeles.
    In July last year, the producer of "Georgia Rule", wrote a letter to Lohan in which he called her behavior "discourteous, irresponsible and unprofessional" because she was showing up late to the movie's set. Lohan portrays a head-strong, troubled young woman in the film.
    When asked about the situation on the sets and all the brouhaha around her being late for shoots, Lindsay replied that things might have been blown out of proportion in the gossip mills.
    "The thing was I was never really, I mean I knew I did something wrong, that was obvious. I took care of that, that was me, I was nineteen during filming, but it wasn't like that on the set, they blow things out of proportion and the work that we had in the movie, and all the craft that everyone put into it, really showed through and that's what's important," said Lohan.
    Lohan has said earlier in an interview with Allure magazine that she had been a bit irresponsible at the time of filming "Georgia Rule" because she was going through something then in her life.
    According to Allure, at the time, she was ending the relationship with then boyfriend Harry Morton, who is the son of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino founder Peter Morton.
    This past January, Lohan checked herself into a Los Angeles rehabilitation clinic for one month.
    Later, when asked by another reporter on the red carpet whether she found facing the media at premieres like this a grueling task, Lohan replied in the negative, saying that getting a chance to convey her real self to people was important to her. "No, no, I love it, this is what I do I am an entertainer, I like it. I like talking to people so that people know that I'm a real person, and I'm not some Hollywood change girl," Lohan said.
    Lohan also hugged her director in "Georgia Rule", Garry Marshall, on the red carpet. Lohan said that he was glad that he was able to complete the film in proper time, and was excited that the film was finally going to be in theaters.
    When asked whether he might have any advice for Lohan, Marshall answered, "Life is more important than showbusiness, it's my advice. Have a life and try to keep friends around that will help you have a life, and she's working on it. She's going to do all right."
    Actor Garrett Hedlund, who plays Lohan's love interest in the film, said that he didn't think it would be right to say that the atmosphere on the sets of the film was difficult because of Lohan.
    "I won't say that, I know that in press everything really gets blown out of proportion, I just know that I mean we got every one of our scenes filmed. We went home at the end of the day complete and that's that," said Hedlund.
    Jane Fonda, who plays Lohan's grandmother in "Georgia Rule", did not speak to Reuters on the red carpet but in an earlier interview done on the sets of the film, with the in-house crews, she praised Lohan's ability to "access her emotions" as an actress.
    "Georgia Rule", which also stars actress Felicity Huffman, and tells the story of a three different generations of women in one family and the difficult but strong bond they share, opens in U.S. theaters on May 11th.
