- Story Text: It's been four years since television audiences have seen Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda sashaying through the streets of New York discussing their latest sexual conquests. Now they are back and bigger than ever -- the 'Sex and the City' TV stars took to the big screen on Thursday (May 15) with the German premiere in Berlin of their tales of love and high fashion.
Proving the show's popularity hasn't faded, the stars were greeted by hordes of screaming fans. Carrie Bradshaw alias Sarah Jessica Parker, who had sparked much talk among fashionistas with the specially created hat she wore at the London premiere on Monday (May 12), came hat-less, but dazzled with an elaborate hair-do.
"I chose to do something else. One mustn't repeat. You all would become to cavalier if I wore a hat every night, wouldn't you?" she told Reuters. London hat artist Philip Treacy had designed the hat for Parker who wore an Alexander McQueen gown to go with it. "I was thrilled and delighted and Lee (Alexander McQueen) built the dress for the premiere, so I was happy to oblige" Parker said, adding she would never wear the hat again: "Oh no, that's a hat you only get to wear once. It was a thrill.
But it's carefully packed."
Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Carrie and is also a producer of the film, said she had been working on the project for 2-1/2 years.
The film takes off four years on from where the hit series left the sassy singletons, who were so blatantly honest in their desire to have "sex like men" but also lusted as much for a new pair of Manolo Blahnik heels as they did for the perfect beau.
For Cynthia Nixon, aka Miranda, returning to familiar ground after four years came naturally and is mixed with a little melancholy- as it is the final Sex and the City project so far.
"It doesn't feel like this is it, it feels like we're in the midst of launching it. I mean, people by and large haven't seen the film, so it's really out there and it's in the theater and everybody is buying tickets, it won't feel like we're really in the midst of it", Nixon said.
Both Kim Cattrall who plays saucy Samantha and Kristin Davis plays wholesome Charlotte, did not want to eliminate the option of one more Sex and the City venture.
"Never say over, that's what we've learned, it's never over. The nice thing is, that, even if we never make another movie, even if we don't actually work together again, we are kind of bound for life. And that's a wonderful thing. The fans talk to us every day, we get to see each other. We are family, so it's never over", said Davis. "I don't think you can ever say never, especially when Sex and the City is concerned, because we thought it was over four years ago, and here we are, tonight in this amazing city, under these bright lights talking to all these people and fans, so I don't think you can ever say never", Cattrall added.
The film takes off from where the TV series ended. Carrie is still working out of her Upper East Side apartment, but now she is a contributing editor to Vogue and is working on her fourth book.
Charlotte is living out her dream on Park Avenue and Samantha has followed her actor boyfriend to Los Angeles.
Miranda is still in Brooklyn, missing Manhattan, and is grappling with the demands of motherhood.
Chris Noth is back as Carrie's love interest Mr. Big, and actress Candice Bergen also returns as Carrie's editor Enid Frick at Vogue.
The hit series that premiered on HBO in 1998, ran for six seasons and earned 50 Emmy nods and 8 Golden Globes.
