Like I seem like I'm Warren Buffett, because I made the movie months ago. I called it. Yeah, my feeling is that when the economy collapsed down the toilet two weeks back everyone was so upset. But I was like, this just makes my movie plausible." ELIZABETH BANKS ON RED CARPET (SOUNDBITE) (English) ELIZABETH BANKS, CO-STAR, ON RELEVANCE TO TODAY'S ECONOMY, SAYING: "I think a lot of people are going to relate to the circumstances in this film. I think a lot of people are worried about how they're going to heat their house this winter. And that's Zack and Miri, man. They can't afford heat right now, so their solution is a little crazy but the circumstances, I think, a lot of people can understand." SETH ROGEN AND GIRLFRIEND ON RED CARPET (SOUNDBITE) (English) SETH ROGEN, ACTOR, ON RELEVANCE TO TODAY'S ECONOMY, SAYING: "Is not having money, exactly. I see it as a blueprint for people to dig themselves out of the ditch. [Reporter: Will it work?] Oh yeah, if there's one thing, I think people will probably watch more porn when the economy is dipping. So I think now's the time to make porn. It's cheap to produce and you can sell it for a lot. That's business 101." JUSTIN LONG TALKING TO CRAIG ROBINSON ON RED CARPET (SOUNDBITE) (English) JUSTIN LONG , ACTOR, ON RELEVANCE TO TODAY'S ECONOMY, SAYING: "I think it's going to give both presidential candidates an idea on a new economic strategy. When you're hit with hard times, what do you do, you ... forget the bail out, this is like a "porn-out". TRACI LORDS ON RED CARPET TALKING TO MEDIA ELIZABETH BANKS POSING FOR PICTURES BRANDON ROUTH ON RED CARPET (SOUNDBITE) (English) BRANDON ROUTH, ACTOR, ON MOVIE POSTER CONTROVERSY, SAYING: "We obviously have the MPAA, they do their thing and that's a part of the movie making business. We have to work around it and, you know, it all creates news and publicity for the thing anyway. I really like this kind of crude drawings, it really sells the movie in a good way too, maybe better than the other one." - Story Text: Two friends can't pay the bills, decide to make an amateur porn movie and end up falling in love in Kevin Smith's latest comedy, called, what else: "Zack and Miri Make A Porno."
"Zack and Miri Make a Porno" premiered in Los Angeles Monday night (October 20). The cast and crew walked the red carpet in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater for a special screening of the Kevin Smith's R-rated comedy. Among the attendees were Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, Justin Long, Brandon Routh and Traci Lords. Given the film's subject matter, well known porn actors who appeared in the film were also on hand.
Kevin Smith's film has had to battle its way to the theaters. First slapped with an NC-17 (no children allowed under 17) rating which was later reduced to R (children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult). Then complaints about the original movie poster and then complaints about using the word "porno" in the title. Smith says he was not expecting this kind of response.
"I knew when we put "porn" in the title it was going to turn some people off, but I just figured those people weren't coming to see the movie anyway, " Smith says. "So that was it, that was the worst I'd figure I'd get. That this all happened, it was just kind of strange."
The film is a comedy about two lifelong platonic friends needing quick cash. Deeply entangled in debts, Zack (Rogen) and Miri (Banks) try to find a way to make lots of money in short time and come out with an idea to produce an amateur porn movie.
Considering the current financial situation in the United States. The premise seems slightly more realistic than it might have been six months ago.
Kevin Smith is pleasantly surprised. "It's a little more prescient isn't it. Like I seem like I'm Warren Buffett, because I made the movie months ago. I called it. Yeah, my feeling is that when the economy collapsed down the toilet two weeks back everyone was so upset. But I was like, this just makes my movie plausible."
Actor Justin Long thinks porn could be the next economic plan. "I think it's going to give both presidential candidates an idea on a new economic strategy," Long said. "When you're hit with hard times, what do you do, you ... forget the bail out, this is like a "porn-out".
