  • Story Text: Kevin Costner trades in "good guy" image for that of notorious serial killer in his new suspense thriller, "Mr. Brooks."
    Kevin Costner joined co-stars Demi Moore and Dane Cook on the red carpet Tuesday(May 22, 2007) at the legendary Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood for the Los Angeles premiere of "Mr. Brooks."
    The psychological thriller is somewhat of a different film for Costner, who plays Earl Brooks, a man who seems to have it all, a loving wife, a devoted daughter, community standing and a thriving business. Brooks, however, lives another life, that of a notorious serial murderer branded as The Thumbprint Killer.
    "I just thought it had the ability to be an American classic, if we rode the edge and if we didn't back away from what it was," explained Costner, on his interest in taking on the role.
    For Demi Moore, who arrived at the premiere with Ashton Kutcher, the opportunity to play a tenacious detective who chases down Costner's character is also something she enjoyed.
    "We both are similar in that we both play hunters," Moore told Reuters in comparing her character with that of Costner's. "We are both seeking our prey and you'll have to see the film to see where it ends up."
    Also adding to the film suspense is a peeping tom photographer played by stand up comedian Dane Cook.
    "Demi, William Hurt and Kevin Costner," explained Cook on getting a chance to work with the stellar cast on the film. "I grew up watching their films and was hoping to emulate many of their films and what they put there for people to see and the stories they tell. So, when this came along, I actually thought I had a shot at it, having done 17 years of stand up comedy, but wanting and having a need to fulfil another side of my creative outlet. So, this was a wonderful challenge and I'm really glad that I'm here."
    "Mr. Brooks" opens nation-wide on June 1.
