- Story Text: The courtroom drama has a rich history in Hollywood. And this month brings a new entry to the genre in the form of "Fracture." The film stars Anthony Hopkins as an accused murderer and Ryan Gosling as a young prosecutor bent on bringing him to justice.
Hopkins plays a structural engineer who is believed to have shot his wife in cold blood, while Gosling portrays the deputy district attorney assigned to the case. In a series of plot twists and turns, these unlikely adversaries try to outwit each other after Hopkins' character is acquitted of the crime.
The filmmakers, led by director Gregory Hoblit, did their best to play up the tension and added a last-minute surprise to the story.
"Yeah, we did a re-shoot in January which was very good," Hopkins said at the red carpet premiere. "The end of the movie, which really brought it all together. And it was wonderful working with Ryan Gosling and (director) Greg Hoblit, a wonderful bunch of people," he added.
While making a movie that centred upon a complex cat-and-mouse game, the veteran actor also became infamous on set for another skill.
"Yeah, I bark like a dog," admitted the "Silence of the Lambs" star. "I do dog barks."
Co-star Gosling, who witnessed it firsthand, feels the unique ability is an extension of the actor's acclaimed on-screen talent.
"You're talking about the dog barking?" said Gosling. "Oh, man. Yeah, he barks like a dog. Just like a dog. Everything he does, he does great. And when he decides to bark like a dog, you can almost tell the breed. It's, like, perfect."
When asked about matters more at hand, including the chaos of walking the red carpet, Gosling laughed.
"I feel like I'm having my parents' acid trips, you know? Like they did a lot of acid in the seventies and I feel like I'm having their flashbacks."
In addition to Hopkins and Gosling, "Fracture" also features David Strathairn, Embeth Davidtz, and Rosamund Pike.
The psychological thriller opens across North America and the United Kingdom on April 20. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
