ZACH GALIFIANAKIS TALKING TO REPORTERS (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR ZACH GALIFIANAKIS, SAYING "You know, there's a lot of road trip movies, this one has a, you know, this has the ups and downs of any kind of road trip, but the good thing about this movie, I think, is that, I think people will be surprised, I don't even know if it's marketed this way, but people will be surprised it has a nice little, some warmth to it, it's not just falling down and cursing each other. I'm really happy with it." (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR ZACH GALIFIANAKIS, SAYING "There could be, you know what? It would be a nice discussion, Robert would tell me all about his Hollywood days, and Robert and I get along very well, so I think it would be a lot more of a gentlemanly ride than this movie is." - Story Text: Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis walked the red carpet Thursday (October 28) in support of their new film "Due Date," in which the unlikely pair play two men caught up in a road trip race against time, in which they must overcome several odds. And the "odds" are plentiful -- "Due Date" is from the same wacky mind as another popular Galifianakis flick, "The Hangover," director Todd Phillips, who walked the red carpet with the film's stars at the Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood.
Also attending the premiere were actor Jamie Foxx and actresses Juliette Lewis and Michelle Monaghan.
In "Due Date," Downey Jr. plays Peter Highman, an expectant first-time father whose wife's due date is five days away. As Peter hurries to catch a flight home from Atlanta to be at her side, his best intentions go completely awry when a chance encounter with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis) forces the two to go on an unforgettable and hilarious road trip in order for Highman to make it home in time to witness his child's birth.
Speaking briefly to reporters before the evening's screening, Downey Jr. said that there was not a chance that he would miss the birth of his child.
"Well, we have a thing, we won't spend two weeks apart, so if there was a blizzards, I'd have to get like a snow cap from 'The Shining' or something," says Downey Jr., next to his wife, Susan Downey, who also serves as executive producer of "Due Date."
On the red carpet, an unusually level-headed Galifianakis explained that the movie, however bizarre its trailer promises it to be, does have an underlying positive message to it.
"The good thing about this movie, I think, is that, I think people will be surprised, I don't even know if it's marketed this way, but people will be surprised it has a nice little, some warmth to it, it's not just falling down and cursing each other," says Galifianakis. "I'm really happy with it."
And what's there not to be happy with, according to actress Michelle Monaghan, who plays Downey Jr.'s wife in the film.
"Well, I mean, first of all, Robert Downey Jr., Zach Galifianakis, you can't go wrong with those two, they're hysterical together, it's an amazing film, it's a Todd Phillips' film, you're going to have a ball, you're not going to believe the things that you see," says Monaghan.
All the talk about the disastrous road trip featured in "Due Date" got Zach Galifianakis wondering what a similar real-life situation with Robert Downey Jr. would be like.
"It would be a nice discussion, Robert would tell me all about his Hollywood days, and Robert and I get along very well, so I think it would be a lot more of a gentlemanly ride than this movie is," says Galifianakis before heading in to the screening.
"Due Date" arrives in theaters on November 5. The much anticipated sequel to "The Hangover," the most successful R-rated comedy of all time, is currently in production. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
