- Story Text: Beyonce Knowles lit up the red carpet Monday night (November 24, 2008) at The Egyptian Theater for the Los Angeles premiere of the blues drama, 'Cadillac Records.' The arrival of the Knowles created a buzz among the many fans who waited in line for a chance to see the singer, who plays the role of blues legend Etta James, in the film.
"Just imagine. She is one of my hero's," explained Knowles, in describing her admiration for James. "I always loved her voice, but now knowing all that she has been through, she's one of my heroes. To know that she is in the theatre, I actually spoke with her and she actually told me that she loved me from the first time she heard me sing the song."
'Chicago Records' tells the story of sex, violence, race and rock and roll in 1950's Chicago. The film follows the exciting but turbulent lives of some of America's musical legends, including Muddy Waters, Leonard Chess, Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf, Chuck Berry and Etta James.
"It's really interesting for me because I learned so much history and I know and understand and appreciate my life a lot more, knowing all the sacrifices and struggles that people like Etta James had to go through," Knowles told Reuters.
Academy Award winning actor Adrien Brody, who plays record executive Leonard Chess in the film, had admiration himself for Beyonce.
"She's amazing. She was phenomenal, she embraced the role," said Brody of Knowles. "She was very honest and the most remarkable thing is that she allowed herself to be incredibly vunerable. She is an amazing singer, so the combination allowed her to play Etta James convincingly."
'Cadillac Records' fine cast also stars actors Jeffrey Wright, Mos Def and Gabrielle Union.
