- Story Text: Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were among the Hollywood elite to walk the red carpet at the premiere of the new film "It's Complicated" in New York on Wednesday (December 9).
The film is a comedy about relationships, love, and divorce.
In the film Streep plays Jane, a divorced mother of three adult children, who owns a bakery in Santa Barbara, California. Sparks begin to fly when Jane reconnects with her ex-husband Jake, (Alec Baldwin), at their son's college graduation. Streep says the romantic issues created at the reunion is at the heart of the film.
"You know the problems that re-arise," says actress Meryl Streep.
Baldwin says it was a treat to work with the all-star cast.
"It is exciting because I haven't done a film like this in awhile and I have these fabulous people; Meryl and Steve, and Kraainski and Zoe and Caitlin and Hunter and Lake, and Nancy makes great movies, hit movies, and so we're very, very hopeful. I hope the movie does well," said Baldwin.
Adam (Steve Martin) comes into the picture as an architect who develops an interest in Jane while doing work on her home. He too is recovering from a divorce, and things become even more "complicated" as he seeks the affection of Jane.
"Love is infinitely complicated. You can write about it forever, and it will never exhaust itself as a topic. It's so complicated," reiterated Steve Martin.
In the exploration of the lovers' triangle and the odd situations that can come with it, actor John Krasinski, cast as the fiancé of the couples oldest daughter, said "It's really funny. I don't know if you know Alec Baldwin, but he's a really funny dude and then there's a guy named Steve Martin who's an up and comer and you're gonna love him. He makes some really funny, funny scenes. No, it's fantastic and it's just been an honor to be a part of this cast."
And who is the funniest in the film, according to actor Steve Martin, it wasn't just him.
"I had really stiff competition between Meryl and Alec who are both extremely funny people. It was a joy to go to work. It really is," said Martin.
Directed by Nancy Meyers of the film "What Women Want", "It's Complicated" opens in theaters on Christmas Day (December 25). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
