- Story Text: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, and Michelle Rodriguez reunite for "Fast and Furious," a sequel to the similarly titled "The Fast and the Furious."
Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, and Michelle Rodriguez reunite for "Fast and Furious," the fourth installment to the racecar action flick franchise that launched their respective careers almost a decade ago. The cast gathered for the red carpet premiere Thursday (March 12) to debut the newest addition to the blockbuster series that has grossed over 600 million dollars (USD) worldwide.
Actor Vin Diesel, whose imposing muscular physique and "bad boy" screen image was cemented with 2001's "The Fast and The Furious," was thrilled to be given the chance to reprise his role of Dominic Toretto, a renegade, high-speed racing enthusiast.
"It's a unique feeling because it doesn't happen often, but it was a wonderful experience, it's rare that you can make something so significant and then, it stays alive and waits for you until you are ready to return to the character like this franchise," says Vin Diesel.
"It's an incredible feeling to be able to go back to this same cast and to explore the story further."
For actress Jordana Brewster, who plays Diesel's sister in the film, the reunion with her former castmates was at first an awkward experience, but eventually the group fell back into their old working relationships.
"It was fun, I mean, towards the very beginning it was a little awkward because it's not like you get to form your first impression with people, and make your first impression, so the first day was awkward, and then after a couple of days, you got into the swing of things again."
"Fast and Furious" follows ex-con Dominic Toretto (Diesel), who is forced to re-team with a former rival played by Paul Walker, and together the pair must overcome a powerful enemy that leads them through several action-packed car chases across international borders. The film takes the popular themes of street racing, beautiful women, and fast-paced lifestyle to the next level with outrageous stunts and plot twists.
Although the movie's title differs only slightly from the original "The Fast and the Furious," Diesel believes the theatergoing public will understand the difference in content between the two, and hope that they will see the amped-up "Fast and Furious" as a film that surpasses its original.
"I think the audience is picking up on the freshness of this film, and the independence of this film, in spite of the 'fast and furious.' I think it's actually working," says Diesel.
