It's not even disfunction it's just like what we go through. So I think this film touches on something very universal, very powerful and all my friends who have families are like freaked out and in love with the film, so I'm so glad." - Story Text: Hollywood megastars Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale are in fine form at the New York City premiere of their new film, 'Everybody's Fine'.
Hollywood A-listers Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale were in fine form in New York City on Thursday (December 3), at the premiere of their new movie, 'Everybody's Fine'.
The megastars braved the cool temperatures to stroll the red carpet along with co-star Sam Rockwell and writer-director Kirk Jones.
A remake of Giuseppe Tornatore's 'Stanno Tutti Bene', 'Everybody's Fine' tells the story of a widower (Robert De Niro) who embarks on an impromptu road trip to reconnect with each of his grown children (played by Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell) only to discover that their lives are far from picture perfect.
Actress Drew Barrymore says the film offers an honest look at the plight of many families.
"I think this film touches on something very universal, very powerful and all my friends who have families are like freaked out and in love with the film, so I'm so glad," Barrymore says.
Academy Award-winner Robert De Niro drew on his own experiences as a father of five and grandfather of two, although he says he's not as tough as his on-screen character, Frank Goode.
"I don't think I'm a tough father the way, the way, some fathers can be but my kids might think that," De Niro says.
Asked whether he'd like Barrymore, Beckinsale and Rockwell as his real kids, De Niro laughs off the suggestion.
"Ah, I have enough trouble with my own," he joked.
Actress Kate Beckinsale says the film is one that many families will be able to relate to - especially in the lead-up to the holiday season.
"I think because it's very relatable to - everybody's got some stuff in their family that you know, somebody's got a little secret or somebody's got some tensions in their relationships, whatever and I think this treats it really well and tenderly and just makes you feel like you want to phone home," Beckinsale says.
The film's director Kirk Jones, admits he was nervous when he first met the legendary De Niro.
"He's not scary. I don't think he looks scary any more either. I have to say I was pretty nervous when I first met him not only because of who he is but it was a very big meeting for me. I'd already spent a year writing the script and I realised you don't get very many chances to pitch Robert De Niro an idea."
