- Story Text: Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper hit the red carpet in New York City on Tuesday (March 8) night in support of their new film "Limitless." The paranoia-fueled action thriller is centered around an unpublished writer, Eddie Morra, played by Cooper. Morra's life is transformed by a so-called smart drug that allows him to become a perfect version of himself.
Cooper's character can recall everything he has ever read and heard. He can learn any language in a day and entice anyone he meets - as long as he keeps taking the untested drug.
The films leading lady Abbie Cornish said the pill "would be a very interesting journey."
"I think it would be a very interesting journey," she said. "I've always felt like knowledge and education is the key. And if you could take a pill that would unlock an infinite amount of knowledge and access to information and the absorption of that information I think that would be amazing," Australian-born Cornish said.
As Cooper's character learns how to use the drug, he takes Wall Street by storm, parlaying a small stake into millions.
Enter De Niro, who's character invites him to help broker the largest merger in corporate history.
About working with De Niro, Cooper said jokingly his first thought was, "now the film will get made."
The film's director Neil Burger counted teaming up with De Niro as a highlight in his career.
"The hardest thing about working with Robert De Niro is that you look at him and you see all of his scene faces in front of you. From Travis Bickle to Jake LaMotta in 'Ragging Bull' and it's incredible distracting as a director and you have to kind of snap yourself out of that and then just get on with the work at hand," Burger said.
Through the course of the film, De Niro and Cooper's successful relationship brings attention from people willing to do anything to get their hands on the drug. This is where the action factor enters into the mix.
"What you didn't like it?" Cooper asked Reuters.
Towards the end movie a old-fashion fist-fight takes a surprising turn.
"Even through there's a lot of gross-out stuff hopefully there's a lot of sexy stuff too, cool stuff," Cooper added.
De Niro hit the carpet with his wife Grace Hightower and didn't stop for reporters.
Cooper said just being in his company can sometimes convert even the innocent to unknowingly take on De Niro's demeanor.
'It is something that happens like osmosis when you're around him, you can't help but start to act and inflect like him," Cooper said.
When Reuters asked him to impersonate him, he respectfully declined.
Cooper began his acting career in 1998 and has been in roughly 20 films. But it was his co-starring role in the 2009 box-office hit "The Hangover" that shot him to fame. Rumors surrounding the sequel have listed everyone from Bill Clinton to Charlie Sheen making cameos. Cooper would give any secrets away, but did say that the hype has been overwhelming.
"I'm really excited for it to come out and I'm so curious to see what people are going to think, I hope they love it," said Cooper.
