- Story Text: Julia Roberts attends London premiere of new film " "Eat Pray Love" alongside the book's author Elizabeth Gilbert.
It's something many of us dream of doing - escaping daily life and taking a long self-indulgent trip around the world.
New feel-good movie "Eat Pray Love", starring Julia Roberts, is based on the best-selling memoir of Elizabeth Gilbert, who, after finding herself at a crossroads after a divorce, took a year-long break from her job to go on a globe-trotting quest for self-discovery.
The film is the story of her year-long trek to Italy, India and Indonesia, where she seeks new horizons and life balance through prayer, spiritual guidance from a Balinese medicine man and large portions of pasta.
At the London premiere in Leicester Square on Wednesday (September 22) Julia Roberts told Reuters she had a wonderful time travelling around the world playing Elizabeth GIlbert.
"They were all places I had been to before and was excited to return to and we had a great time".
Eating plays a big role in the third of the film that's based in Italy.
The tall slender Roberts said she ate so much in Rome, she gained 10 lbs (4.5 kilograms). The actress wolfed down eight slices of pizza in under an hour for one scene and six bowls of pasta in another instance.
As well as being able to travel to beautiful parts of the world and eat delicious food, her character is also fortunate enough to meet a handsome man in the form of Javier Bardem.
The Spanish actor whose wife, actress Penelope Cruz is pregnant with their first child, did not attend the London premiere, however the book's author Elizabeth GIlbert, did.
She told Reuters she took a step back from the story when it came to turning it into a movie.
" I didn't want to bother them about it, because I felt like, especially at this moment in Julia Roberts' career, I think we can all relax that she knows how to do her job and I knew that she would bring to it what she needed. I wrote her a letter saying this is yours now. Jump up and down on it all day, twist it in knots, don't even think about me, create something that reflects your inner journey and that's what she's done with the movie so it's wonderful. "
Also the red carpet was the film's director Ryan Murphy , who created the hit US TV show "Glee".
He told Reuters the life-changing experiences didn't just happen to Julia Roberts' character, saying he made some life changes of his own following the film.
"I have never been good at balance. I'm always too much work, work work and at the end of that movie I was like ok I need to get a personal life and I did", he said.
"Eat Pray Love" hasn't pleased critics on the whole, with many describing it as lacking the magic of the book, though Julia Roberts' performance alone has been reviewed more favourably.
The film is released in the United Kingdom on September the 24th. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
