You also trust that you are going to have somebody that is watching what you are doing, to make sure that you stay on the Mike Judge brand, which is a very funny brand. Why I wanted to do this is that it is a flavor of comedy that is pretty specific. I hope I did not screw it up too much because he has quite a pedigreed." - Story Text: Stars Jason Bateman and Mila Kunis joined writer/director Mike Judge on the red carpet Monday night (August 24, 2009) for the Los Angeles premiere of "Extract."
The screening was held the Arclight Hollywood Theater.
"Extract," is the latest comedy from Judge, who is best known for his signature works, "Office Space" and the cartoon, "Beavis and Butt-Head."
In the film Joel, played by Jason Bateman, is one step away from selling his flavor extract factory and retiring to easy street when a freak workplace accident sets in motion a series of disasters that put his business and personal life in jeopardy.
Judge told Reuters that getting the right actors for the film was key to moving forward on it.
"You know, that if I wasn't able to get that critical mass of actors I probably would not have made the movie, same thing with 'Office Space,'" explained Judge. "Jason was the first actor I offered it to and he said he would do and I never went to anyone else. I started with him and then started casting."
It was Judge's reputation though that helped bring the cast together.
"You do trust that it is going to be funny when Mike Judge has written it," said Bateman. "You also trust that you are going to have somebody that is watching what you are doing, to make sure that you stay on the Mike Judge brand, which is a very funny brand. Why I wanted to do this is that it is a flavor of comedy that is pretty specific. I hope I did not screw it up too much because he has quite a pedigreed."
The film also stars Ben Affleck and Kristen Wiig.
