- Story Text: Everyone's favorite furry booted cat is back as Antonio Banderas joined Salma Hayek on the red carpet for the premiere of "Puss In Boots" on Sunday (October 23, 2011) in Los Angeles, with hundreds of screaming fans vying to catch a glimpse of their feline hero. "Hangover" star Zach Galifianakis and actor Billy Bob Thornton joined Banderas and Hayek as they signed autographs and posed with life-sized Puss and Kitty on the red carpet.
Latino stars Banderas and Hayek brought added intensity to the relationship between Puss and Kitty, and were both delighted to be reunited on "Puss in Boots" after working together on films like "Desperado."
"The best part is the possibility of working with somebody that I admire, I respect and I love," said Banderas of Hayek, as the actress added, "He's so talented, it was great being able to improvise together, it was such a privilege."
Funny man Galifianakis, who plays the bad egg Humpty Dumpty, liked that his character was a complex con artist.
"My favorite part of the character itself, which helps the storylines, is that Humpty is very all over the place, and a little bit moody and he's also a scam artist, and that's kind of fun to play," said the actor.
The character of Puss in Boots, made famous by Banderas in the "Shrek" film franchise, stepped into the spotlight with his very own film, joined by sultry love interest, Kitty Softpaws, played by Salma Hayek. In this film, Puss finds himself in partnership with his nemesis, Humpty Dumpty, voiced by Galifianakis, as they go on the hunt for the legendary magic beans and the golden goose on top of the beanstalk, overcoming obstacles from southern villains Jack and Jill.
Billy Bob Thornton plays the role of Jack, from the Jack and Jill fable, and he found himself drawn to the larger than life villain in a film that he believed would entertain adults as much as children.
"It's a very exciting movie and sometimes you forget you're watching a cartoon, you kind of get into the story and the characters a lot so I think it's, because it's an animated film, I think kids will love it, but there's a lot of adult innuendo and stuff in it, you know, which is great," the actor said with a laugh.
"Puss in Boots" includes romance, adventure, revenge and some sizzling cat flamenco with a star-studded cast, and will be in U.S. theaters from Friday, October 28. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
