- Story Text: Stars Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald had their "dancecard" filled as they arrived on the red carpet Monday night (October 03) for the Hollywood premiere of "Footloose."
Yes, the 80's iconic film that starred Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer and a top-40's soundtrack has been re-booted by director Craig Brewer, who promises the new "Footloose" re-captures the spirit of the original while adding a new twist that makes it relevant today.
"There was tremendous pressure," explained Brewer in remaking the film. "Because, I'm telling you that that was an important movie to me. I really wanted to capture that spirit that the original had."
In the remake of the 1984 film of the same name, Ren MacCormack (played by newcomer Kenny Wormald) is transplanted from Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont's local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister's troubled daughter Ariel (Julianne Hough) in the process.
Wormald though said the new "Footloose" is more than just a dance flick.
"What is great about this movie is that it is not a typical dance movie like you have seen in the past 10 years. It has a true plot, it has great story and a lot of great messages. Then the dancing just accents all of it. I am very proud as a dancer to represent this time of dance in such a big way," said Wormald.
Julianne Hough, a professional dancer who is best known for her work on the American television show, "Dancing with the Stars," added that the film's dance routines were still hard.
"Any kind of dance on any level is always kind of tough, especially with long hours," said the 23-year-old Hough. "Sometimes we would be shooting the middle of the night and waiting to do a last shot until the sun came up. It was pretty crazy."
The film also stars Dennis Quaid and Andie MacDowell.
