- Story Text: Actor Michael Fassbender and Director Steve McQueen walked the red carpet Wednesday (November 09) for the AFI premiere of the independent feature, "Shame," which looks into the life of a man living with a sex addiction.
As an actor, Michael Fassbender, said that while every one has some kind of vice or addiction, it was interesting playing a character that struggles as a sex addict, "It's a serious scenario for this character. You know, whether it be gambling, alcohol, drugs, sex, it's about somebody trying to deal with that. This guy is struggling with it. He's aware of it."
The film created a buzz of controversy at the Toronto Film Festival earlier in the year for the amount of sex portrayed and a scene where Brandon, played by Fassbender, is completely nude.
Steve McQueen downplayed the controversy by pointing out that sex is readily available in today's society, "When I was a kid, just to look at pornography, you walked into a news agents, and it was on the top shelf, you look up, just look up. And now, it's one button on your iPhone and you have it."
Fellow actor in the film, James Badge Dale, who plays Brandon's boss and friend agreed, saying, "In this day and age when it's so readily available, you know, people, there is so much stimulation everywhere." Dale added, "It's constant. Sex is everywhere, so I think the story is very relevant."
"Shame" will have a limited theatrical release in the United States starting December 2, 2011. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
