- Story Text: Harry Potter actress Emma Watson strolled the red carpet at the premiere of 'My Week With Marilyn' in London on Sunday evening (November 20).
The young star plays Marilyn Monroe's assistant Lucy in the film, based on the memoirs of Colin Clark. After several months away from the limelight, she told Reuters it felt a little strange to be the centre of attention.
"It's something that's quite difficult to get used to but it's really fun to be in london and I'm obviously really excited about the film and it's nice to see Eddie and Simon and Kenneth and and everyone who's here so it's been nice."
Watson said she's back studying at university and has been finding trying to juggle work and her academic commitments challenging.
"It's an interesting juggling act. It's tough but I'm really enjoying studying again, it keeps me sane. It's tough but I'm really enjoying it."
'My Week With Marilyn' chronicles a week in the life of Marilyn Monroe as she escapes her Hollywood routine and is introduced to the pleasures of 1950s Britain by an assistant, Colin Clark, on the set of "The Prince and the Showgirl". That film featured Monroe working opposite Sir Laurence Oliver and was shot when Monroe was on a honeymoon with her husband, playwright Arthur Miller. When Miller left England, Clark was assigned to introduce Monroe to British life.
Michelle Williams, who has received positive reviews for her portrayal of Marilyn, did not attend the premiere. However her co-star, Eddie Redmayne who plays Colin, was on hand to sing her praises.
"I thought when I looked at the script, how can you do a film about Marilyn Monroe, I mean what a ridiculous notion and then I found out Michelle was playing it and I was like oh that's how you do it - get someone who is one of the greatest actresses of her generation to do it. It was a masterclass really. It was an extraordinary thing to watch all the different facets of her. Because what you see in the Prince and the Showgirl, which is the film that our film is about the making off - when you see that performance by Marilyn Monroe, you see this lightness and frivolity and this caprice but actually what was going on her private life was so damaging, so seeing Michelle connect those two things together was amazing".
Actor Kenneth Branagh likened the film to a fairytale. "The movie invites the audience to have a think about what it would be be like if you had a chance to go missing with your favourite celebrity for a week." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
