- Story Text: There was an all-star turn out at the European premiere of 'Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows' in London, England, on Thursday (December 8, 2011) night.
Despite the rain, director Guy Ritchie was joined by his cast; including Hollywood actors Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, on the red carpet in the capital's Leicester Square. The trio have re-united for the follow up to 2009's hit 'Sherlock Holmes' and according to filmmaker Ritchie this movie is better than the first.
''I do prefer the second one, I think we just we knew what we were doing more when we came to this one, we worked harder, it was actually a more painful film to make, I mean that in a positive way as well just being in a painful way, I am not saying pain is bad thing for you, but it is hard work but we all wanted... we weren't prepared to be lazy, we didn't want to be lazy and we knew that laziness was our enemy, it is easy to be lazy, so we had to trump it and with that comes a certain amount of anxiety and pressure.'' The new movie sees Holmes and Watson travel across Europe as they take on the criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty. Downey Jr. is back as the eccentric detective, while Law reprises his role as loyal sidekick Dr. Watson.
Last time Downey Jr. scooped a Golden Globe for his part, however when asked if he is thinking about winning an Academy Award the actor replied: "I'm thinking it's a lovely night in London, I tend not to think that way, I just, honestly, I don't really care about that stuff, I really like it when audiences enjoy movies that to me is fifty times more important that an Oscar.'' The boys were also joined at the screening by new cast member, Noomi Rapace, who plays Gypsy fortune teller Madam Simza Heron. Most famous for playing Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, the Swedish actress said her co-stars Downey Jr. and Law made her feel at ease on set.
''The amazing thing with those guys is they are so supporting and loving and they just grab me and embraced me and took care of me, it almost felt like a small indie movie because we were all really close and it was really intimate,'' she said.
Meanwhile away from chat about the film, director Guy Ritchie opened up about his new baby son. His first child with partner Jacqui Ainsley was born in September.
''It's funny I feel like a dad to this film and I feel like a dad to my baby and they sort of came together hand in hand, poor fellah has had to live with this film since he popped out you know, but I love it, you know, it's great," he said.
Richie has two other children with his ex wife Madonna - biological son Rocco and their adopted child, David. He wasn't the only one talking about babies; Downey Jr. is due to become dad again in the next few months. When asked about the new arrival and if he is looking forward to next year, the actor joked that he's 'not smelling Armageddon'.
Law is also a family man and the British Daily Mail newspaper has speculated on its website that he might spend Christmas abroad with his ex-wife, Sadie Frost, and their three children. He confirmed he is planning a break because he did not have a summer holiday but would not say for definite if he's heading, as reported, to the Seychelles, or indeed who with.
