And it stayed in my head - I hadn't seen the films they made, but when I got the script I was blown away by how well Steve Zaillian had sort of capsulated the book." MARA POSING FOR PICTURES (SOUNDBITE) (English) ROONEY MARA, ACTRESS, SAYING: "No, you know, I couldn't have done it if I'd had any hesitation. After I read the books I was pretty sure that I had to do it and that I wanted to do it." ACTOR CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER, ACTOR, SAYING: "I kind of got Mr. Vanger's message when I read the book. And I didn't need much preparing, the script was so clear and well written and I played sort of these strange and old patriarchs before. So and yet, there was a difference in this one which I liked very much and it was certainly a vast difference from "Beginners. So I'm glad I had two roles which were diametrically opposite." PLUMMER ON RED CARPET (SOUNDBITE) (English) CHRISTOPHER PLUMMER, ACTOR, SAYING: "I'm honoured and I'm thrilled that my peers have voted for me, I think that's lovely." ACTRESS JOELY RICHARDSON SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) JOELY RICHARDSON, ACTRESS, SAYING: "You know if I'm really honest, they're not my go-to types of reading because I'm a bit of a scaredy cat. My time for reading is at night before I go to bed, so I can't be stimulated or scared before I go to sleep. But they're obviously, this major sensation and I think that is primarily due to the character of Lisbeth." ACTOR STELLAN SKARGARD SPEAKING TO REPORTER (SOUNDBITE) (English) STELLAN SKARGARD, ACTOR, SAYING: "I don't know, it's different cultures. When we make films in Sweden they tend to be very small and we also have a very non-hierarchical corporate structure in Sweden which means that you don't just tell somebody to do something and he does it - he has to know why. And that could collide sometimes with a more hierarchical system. But it was fun to see - and I had one foot in each camp and I was very happy to be the host to the Americans that came over and for once Hollywood came to me and I didn't have to go there, it was great."

- Story Text: The cast of the American version of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" have hit the States to celebrate the opening of their new film.
Actors Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara hit the red carpet in New York to promote the movie based on Swedish author Stieg Larsson's first novel in the collection of The Millennium Trilogy.
Tales of avenging sexual violence against women and mystery play out in the movie that stars Craig as a journalist trying to crack the case of a missing woman. Newcomer Rooney Mara plays Lisbeth Salander, a computer hacker who tries to help Craig's character, Mikael Blomkvist, solve the mystery.
Craig, who first read the book when it came out, has always been a fan of the story.
"It stayed in my head - I hadn't seen the films they made," said Craig, speaking of the three Swedish films made in 2008.
"When I got the script I was blown away by how well Steve Zaillian (the films writer) had sort of capsulated the book," Craig added.
Mara said the popularity of the books and her character Lisbeth didn't intimidate her from taking the role.
"I couldn't had done it if I'd have any hesitation. After I read the books I was pretty sure that I had to do it and that I wanted to do it," Mara told Reuters.
On the red carpet British actress Joely Richardson, who plays Anita Vanger in the movie, admitted that the books aren't normally what she reads, but understands the hype surrounding the publications.
"I'm a bit of a scaredy cat. My time for reading is at night before I go to bed, so I can't be stimulated or scared before I go to sleep. But they're obviously, this major sensation and I think that is primarily due to the character of Lisbeth," explained Richardson.
For acting veteran Christopher Plummer, the book was all he needed in order to get into character.
"I kind of got Mr. Vanger's message when I read the book. And I didn't need much preparing, the script was so clear and well written and I played sort of these strange and old patriarchs before. So and yet, there was a difference in this one which I liked very much and it was certainly a vast difference from "Beginners." So I'm glad I had two roles which were diametrically opposite," said Plummer, who was just nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role as a elderly gay man in "The Beginners." When asked about the recognition Plummer said: "I'm honored and I'm thrilled that my peers have voted for me, I think that's lovely."
The movie was shot on location in Stockholm and in the Swedish countryside, which gave Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard a welcomed and added responsibility.
"When we make films in Sweden they tend to be very small and we also have a very non-hierarchical corporate structure in Sweden which means that you don't just tell somebody to do something and he does it - he has to know why. And that could collide sometimes with a more hierarchical system. I had one foot in each camp and I was very happy to be the host to the Americas that came over and for once Hollywood came to me and I didn't have to go there, it was great," said Skarsgard.
Before heading into the screening of the film, Mara confessed that she hadn't seen the movie yet, but revealed how she would like to view the movie for the first time: "I'm not going to watch it right now, it's too much pressure. I want to watch it when I'm in like comfy clothes."
